Postcard shows a photo of November 12, 1936 as the toll plaza officially opened. Pedestrians were not allowed to walk on the bridge, but 5000 San Franciscans walked onto the bridge, creating a massive traffic jam. While it was open, the bridge was not yet finished, as tracks for interurban electric tracks still had to be installed on the lower deck.
