Shot of hiker (photographer Richard Dillon's wife) in Steep Ravine on the slope of Mt. Tamalpais, near former site of Thaddeus & Ludmilla Welch's cabin, 1976. The Welches lived in the cabin from 1894-1902. Typed note accompanying photo reads "Descending into Steep Ravine today is like dropping into Kaluakauka, or Doctor's Pit, on Mauna Kea. (Note the size of the hker, right foreground, for an idea of the size of the laurels and other sky-reaching trees." |
