Description |
Mt. Tamalpais and Muir Woods Railway Engine No. 5 and "Black Maria" at the Double Bow Knot on Mt. Tamalpais. At the far left of the photo, two railroad workers are seated on Motor No. 1, also called "Black Maria", likely on a Muir Woods shuttle or work train assignment. Black Maria is drawing up one 4-wheel track car and pushing a primitive gravity car with back-to-back seating. Engine No. 5, with two open air passenger railroad cars, is on a track behind the track car and gravity car. Engine No. 5 is emitting steam and taking on water before resuming its push uphill at Mesa Station on Double Bow Knot half way up Mount Tamalpais. A person stands in the shrubbery in the foreground of the photograph, and the peak of Mount Tamalpais may be seen in the background. |
