Description |
The start of the fourth Women's Dipsea Hike in downtown Mill Valley on May 15, 1921. Panoramic photo shows the participants lined up at the start. The event could not be called a race due to a ban on women running long distance races at the time. Women ran the race unofficially starting in 1950 and were officially admitted in 1971. Before then the all-women’s Dipsea Hikes from 1918 through 1922 actually outdrew the men's. Signs for a hotel, The Mill Valley Restaurant, and Mill Valley Hardware can be seen on the building in the background at left. |
