Description |
25 Corte Madera Ave. This photo shows a one-story building with an open garage on the right, a corner entry door leading into the business on the left. The floor-to-ceiling, multipaned window on the left has lettering saying, "UNITED STATES POSTAL ANNEX, MILL VALLEY CALIFORNIA 94941" A station wagon and mail truck are parked on the street in front. The caption on the back of the photo from the 1982 Walk into History reads, "Mill Valley Mt. Tamalpais Railroad was opened in 1896. This scenic railroad crossed Lytton Square; where McDonald's Pleasure principle is now located at 74 Throckmorton and continued behind the Masonic Hall where the Pacific Sun now has their office. It proceeded thru what is now the U.S. Postal Annex, crossing Lovell and continued thru the vacant service station and headed up the canyon for the trip up the crookedest railroad to Mt. Tamalpais." Also written on the back a notation reads ,"25 Corte Madera (1930) Post Office Annex. 1st RR Shops site." |
