Oral History of Jenny Fulle |
Collection |
Oral History |
Scope & Content |
In this oral history, Jenny Fulle recounts the remarkable story of how she opened the way for girls to play Little League baseball throughout the nation. Born in San Francisco in 1962, Jenny moved over to Mill Valley with her mother in 1971. Jenny recalls playing pick-up baseball games with the boys at Boyle Park as a child. In 1974, she tried to sign up for Little League but was turned away on account of her gender. Jenny recounts how she then wrote a letter to the White House, appealing directly to President Nixon to intervene. She describes the controversy the case stirred up, her eventual victory in the Marin County Superior Court, and finally how she led the league in home runs that year. Integrating Little League forced her to develop a thick skin at an early age, and in this way Jenny credits the experience with shaping the rest of her life. Jenny describes her life after Little League, especially her long and prolific career in the film industry, and concludes this oral history by singing a verse from "Take Me Out to the Ball Game." |
