Oral History |
Scope & Content |
George R. Pimlott was born September 1, 1905 in San Francisco. Shortly after the Great San Francisco Earthquake hit in 1906, George's family moved to Mill Valley. He attended Summit School, was in the first graduating class of Old Mill School, and graduated from Tamalpais High School. George became an electrician and worked together with his father at their family business, Electricians Inc. in Mill Valley until the Depression. After a few stints in other business sectors, George returned to electrical work, serving for 35 years as an electrician for the Golden Gate Bridge. In his oral history, George provides a detailed store-by-store account of downtown Mill Valley, along with descriptions of residences and hiking trails on Mt. Tamalpais. George fondly recalls operating a childhood lemonade stand at the bottom of the Pipeline Trail on Mt. Tamalpais, playing baseball in Boyle Park and at Tamalpais High School, and riding down Mt. Tamalpais in the gravity car. George Pimlott died on January 16, 1996 at the age of 91. |
